The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc fiddle camp 2025!

There are many different fiddle styles found throughout the Nordic region. The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc represent 4 of these and are very knowledgeable about their respective traditions and styles.

Olav Luksengård Mjelva (Norway), Anders Hall (Sweden) and Kevin Henderson (Shetland Islands) have been touring as The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc since 2009 and have taken their unique brand of music to many parts of the globe.

The first NFB Fiddle Camp was held in 2018 in Røros, Norway. After that we have been in Järvsö (SE) in 2019, Voss (NO) in 2023 and Røros again in 2024. All of the camps have been a lot of fun!
In 2025 we go back to Sweden, and the camp will be held at the amazing Eric Sahlström Institute in Tobo.

The institute will be our home for three days of workshops, activities, food, drink and late night jam sessions!

The fiddle camp will offer an intensive daily timetable of three instrumental lessons with Olav, Anders and Kevin as well as other activities to be announced. 

The workshops will be aimed at 3 different levels: intermediate, higher intermediate and advanced. The learning will be done by ear.

The camp will have space for 50-60 people so it is recommended that people sign up quickly to avoid disappointment!

Good to know

When
Arrival: Thursday August 14th from 16.30. There will be dinner and a jam session!
Transport from Tobo train station can be organized.

Departure: Sunday 17th at 13.00. There will be lessons in the morning. Lunch will be served at 12.00. After that you are free to go.

Pricing
6000 NOK including stay in twin room (two separate beds)
5000 NOK if you want to stay elsewhere. It´s possible to bring a tent, camping van/caravan.

Cancellation Policy
When organising and running a camp there are significant costs involved and many things have to be paid for in advance.
If for whatever reason you have to cancel after applying and being accepted the following refund policy has to be in place.

Cancellations before April 30th: Full Refund

Cancellations between May 1st and June 30th: 50% refund

Cancellations after July 1st: No refund.

Where
The camp will be held at the Eric Sahlström Institut in Tobo, Sweden. The Eric Sahlström Institute is a Swedish national center for traditional music and dance, with the instrument nyckelharpa as their special endeavor.

What´s included?
- Local transport (We can help with transport to and from the train station in Tobo).

- Accommodation. There are 22 twin rooms at the institute (separate beds)

- Workshops with Kevin, Anders and Olav. The workshops will be aimed at 3 different levels: lower intermediate, higher intermediate and advanced. The learning will be done by ear.

- A concert with The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc.

- Breakfast, lunch and dinner. We will have our own chef making all meals at the camp.  There will also be coffee, tea etc. Included.

How to get to Tobo

The nearest airport is Arlanda, Stockholm (ARN).
It takes just over one hour to drive or travel with public transport to Tobo from Arlanda.

Tobo is about fifty kilometers north of Uppsala. Thanks to a well-developed public transport system, it is easy to get to and from the Institute. The regional train from Uppsala – ”Upptåget”  – takes about 30 minutes.

Time tables

”Mälartåget”: Upptåget is a regional train. It goes between Uppsala and Gävle, via Tobo.

SJ: The SJ trains go to Uppsala or Gävle. From there you’ll have to change to the regional train ”Upptåget”. But you don’t need two different tickets, you can buy your ticket all the way to Tobo.
